Heartbreaking first pic of man, 42, murdered in Antrim as community left ‘fearful’ after incident & 2 arrested by cops

A MAN murdered in Co Antrim has been named as Barry Furfey.

The 42-year-old died in hospital on Monday after being discovered seriously injured at an address in the Wardsborough Road area of Lisburn in the early hours of Monday.

Police launched a murder investigation following his death.

A man and a woman are being questioned by detectives.

PSNI Detective Inspector Jill Angus has issued an appeal for information.

She said: “My thoughts are with Barry’s family, who are left to try to come to terms with their devastating loss.

“Two people – a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman – arrested yesterday, September 15, remain in custody at this time.

“Our inquiries are continuing, and I am keen to take the opportunity to reiterate my appeal to anyone with information to contact detectives on 101. Please quote reference number 29 of 15/09/25.”

SDLP Lisburn North councillor Pat Catney said the local community is fearful following the murder.

He said: “I visited the Wardsborough Road area following the news of this murder and spoke to members of the local community who are fearful that this happened on their doorsteps. 

“It’s absolutely awful for anyone to lose their life in this way and I would like to express sincere condolences to the family and friends of the man who lost his life. 

“I would ask anyone with any information to come forward to police and commend their response.”

He added: “I also note with deep concern the comments from the Chief Constable that the PSNI currently lack the resources to properly investigate murders.

“We have seen far too many violent deaths already this year and the PSNI must be supported to bring those responsible to justice.”

Chief constable Jon Boutcher has issued repeated warnings about the PSNI being “critically underfunded”.

Alliance Lisburn North Councillor Nicola Parker also expressed shock over the murder.

She said said: “I am deeply saddened to learn about this horrifying incident, and my sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.

“This tragic incident has left many residents in the community feeling shocked and distressed, but I am confident they will unite during this challenging time.

“The PSNI now need space to carry out their investigations but I would appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist, to please contact police on 101, quoting reference number 29 15/09/25.”
