Sailing in County Antrim
With the sea on its doorstep and 1000 years of maritime history to draw on, it’s no surprise that Carrickfergus and Larne are a haven for seafaring pursuits. The nautical nirvana of Carrickfergus has been further enhanced with the spectacular new Carrickfergus Marina, a home from home for all sailors, and holder of the prestigious 5 Gold Anchor and European Blue Flag status. Sailing is a popular sport in Larne, and visitor berths are available from the East Antrim Boat Club in Larne Lough, Glenarm Harbour, Carnlough Harbour and Ballylumford Harbour.
The County Antrim Yacht Club at Whitehead and Carrickfergus Sailing Club are bases for some of the province’s most expert helmsmen and women. Others of the sailing fraternity are found in the Ocean Youth Trust, Sea Cadets and in clubs for Jet-Skiing, Wind-Surfing and Canoeing. Competitive sailing events are held regularly in the Lough and the waters around Islandmagee are some of the best in Ireland for diving. North Irish Lodge can provide instruction and dives for experienced divers.
Located on the sheltered north east shore of Lough Neagh Antrim Boat Club sits in woodland just a short walk along the beach from Shanes Castle. Most of our events take place in Antrim Bay giving a safe area of about six square miles while at any time never being out of sight of land. As one of the leading sailing clubs on Lough Neagh, Antrim Boat Club hosts a range of sailing events.

Situated on the shores of Belfast Lough, Carrickfergus Sailing Club is in a prime location for racing, with great sailing waters right on our slipway. As a RYA recognized training centre, Carrickfergus Sailing Club offers an extensive range of RYA sailing, powerboat and navigation courses. Sailing is a major part of this as it is still one of our most important focal points within the Club to promote sailing.

Enjoy a sail on Antrim's scenic causeway coast on our yacht departing from Ballycastle Marina or Rathlin Island. Causeway Coast Sailing was created to give all North Coast visitors the chance to learn to sail in Northern Ireland. We believe the most enjoyable trips are those where our guests do as much of the sailing as possible, learning the ropes of sailing and gaining an understanding of the wind and tides.
