Tributes to 61-year-old ‘lovely lady’ after horror Antrim road crash as PSNI appeal for information

A WOMAN has died in a horror two-vehicle collision in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

The crash was reported at approximately 2:55pm at O’Neill Road in Glengormley on Friday.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland and emergency services rushed to the scene where the crash was reported.

A woman in her 60s has been confirmed dead at the scene.

The woman has been named as 61-year-old Avril Seeds from the Newtownabbey area.

The O’Neill Road was closed for several hours for investigation and road diversion was put in place.

The road has since been reopened following the collision.

PSNI are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, particularly those with dashcam footage, to come forward.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision investigation Unit said: “Police received a report at approximately 2.55pm of a collision involving two cars on the O’Neill Road in Glengormley.

“Officers attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services, but sadly Avril died at the scene.

“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to any witnesses or to anyone with dash-cam or other footage that could assist with our enquiries to contact police on 101 quoting reference 934 27/09/24.

“O’Neill Road was closed for a number of hours but has since reopened following the collision.”

The local community was left devastated after hearing the news of her tragic death, with many flocking to pay tribute to “a lovely lady”.

A mourner said: “Heartbreaking, thinking of all the family at this sad time.”

‘Beautiful soul’

Another person wrote: “A beautiful soul, thoughts and prays are with the family at this sad time.”

The third person said: “Such heartbreaking news, such a lovely lady, she will be sadly missed.”

Another person added: “Praying for all of Avril’s family at this sad time. When her children were small, she was a big part of our toddler group.

“Serving on the committee for a few years.”

Life After paid a touching tribute to the family of Avril Seeds, they said: “We are saddened to hear that 61year old Avril Seeds from the Newtownabbey area has died following a road traffic collision on Friday afternoon.

“We at Life After want to let her family know that they are very much in our thoughts and prayers as they come to terms with this traumatic event and know that we are there to provide support and assistance if or when required.”
